Important Things To Consider When Using Essential Oils On Children With ADHD Disorder:

Massage, structure and relaxation workouts are all useful and natural techniques to use if you are trying to provide your child with a calm and relaxed environment.
Kids with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are attracted to new activities, change and adventure. This tendency should be balanced with the opposite: activities that are soothing and relaxing. Your child needs regularity and structure to counter his natural inclination towards chaos. There should be a fixed time for homework, exercise, eat, relax, retire for the night, and wake up to begin a new day.
Adding a complete body or even a foot massage to the bed time routine of your child could be another fantastic way to help calm your hyperactive child. Human touch has very effective emotional and physical benefits. There are numerous Essential Oils to pick from that have unique relaxing qualities. Not every Essential Oil is meant to be used directly on skin, so do your research prior to starting use.

Few Pros And Cons Of Using Essential Oils For ADHD Relief:

Using Essential Oils is a natural way to treat the symptoms of ADHD. There is no need to resort to the use of artificial methods for achieving the desired relief.
While these Oils eliminate the symptoms of ADHD, they make you a much sharper individual who can focus on the task at hand.
Some Essential Oils are known to cause itching in some individuals. If you have a sensitive skin, make sure that you do not use Essential Oils before consulting a physician.
We all have wonderful and complex immune systems that protect us from evil foreign invaders such as harmful bacteria and viruses. When such an invader enters the body, the immune system detects it and then a whole host of complicated reactions take place to rid the body of the invader. When everything goes right, the immune system works to guard us against harmful pathogens. But for some of us, due to either a genetic predisposition or some other factors, our immune system goes into overdrive over some external substance that is not really harmful to our body, such as dust, pollens, cat dander, funguses, or certain foods. These things could just circulate in our body, and nothing bad would happen.
Unfortunately, sometimes our immune system does not understand this, and it causes typical responses such as sneezing, coughing, wheezing, fever, the secretion of mucus, watery eyes, and inflammation of different parts of the skin. This is an allergy. But the question you may be asking is: How Can Essential Oils Help With Allergies?
In first place, Essential Oils for allergies can help to ease or eliminate typical allergy symptoms quickly and naturally. It isn’t 100% clear how this happens, but some Essential Oils seem to have strong anti-inflammatory properties, while others help to soothe itching and irritated tissues. Still other Essential Oils work to relax constricted airways and reduce mucus production.
In addition, Essential Oils can help prevent new allergy breakouts. Again, we have to mostly speculate how this happens, but it appears that some Essential Oils, such as Lavender, have antihistamine properties. Histamine is a substance produced by the body that is involved in the allergic response, and antihistamines neutralize the activity of this substance, effectively preventing a new allergy from breaking out.
Finally, Essential Oils can help to actually eliminate some of the allergens that might be causing you misery. Many people are allergic to various fungi and spores, and various Essential Oils have been known to have antifungal properties. Diffusing such Essential Oils in an environment clouded with allergy-causing spores can be another way of overcoming your allergies.

The bark of the tree is slashed, and the resin that seeps out hardens to form solid drops called tears, which are processed to produce the Essential Oil. The species of tree used for producing Frankincense Essential Oil is Boswellia Carteri.
Frankincense has had medical and religious significance for thousands of years. 7 Secret Essential Oils Recipes For Allergy Relief

Below, I’m including a list of essential oil recipe for allergies in general or with specific allergy symptoms. I’ve tried several of the recipes myself and found them to work wonderfully. Also, be cautious as you try out a new Essential Oil protocol. Start off with smaller doses to see how your body reacts, and then apply the entire recipe.
In addition, the recipes below are only the starting point. You can combine them with additional Essential Oils that you find beneficial, and you can use them in other ways (for example, in a diffuser or in a bath). I use Almond Oil as a carrier Oil, and that’s what the recipes specify, but you are free to choose something else, such as Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil, or Olive Oil.
1. The Number One Allergy Fix To Overcome Any Kind Of Allergy Naturally
What you’ll need:
Peppermint Essential Oil,
Lemon Essential Oil,
Lavender Essential Oil,
Almond Oil (optional).
Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon are the most commonly prescribed combination of Essential Oils to help with allergies. The three Oils combine to provide a powerful antihistamine effect as well as to soothe allergy symptoms, and the mixture has helped many people overcome their allergies naturally.
The simplest and safest way to use this combination is to mix 3 drops of Lavender, 3 drops of Lemon, and 2-3 drops of Peppermint with an ounce of Almond Oil. Rub this over your palms, cup your hands over your face, and inhale. Alternately, rub the mixture over your chest and collarbone area. Because Lemon Essential Oil can cause photosensitivity, do not apply this mixture to areas of your skin that will soon be exposed to sunlight.
You should immediately feel relief from most allergy symptoms using the Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon mixture. You can generally repeat this protocol several times a day for several days in a row, as your symptoms begin to disappear.

Roman Chamomile Essential Oil,

Lavender Essential Oil,
Almond Oil,

Instead, the combination of Lavender, Chamomile, and Frankincense work to both reduce the allergy by calming your immune system, as well as to soothe the irritation, itchiness, and swelling that allergies are causing your skin.
The recipe is simple: combine 5 drops of Lavender Oil, 4 drops of Roman Chamomile Oil, and 3 drops of Frankincense Essential Oil with a teaspoon of Almond Oil. For convenience, I put this into a small glass bottle with a metal roll-on filament that I could then carry around with me. I simply used this roll-on around my eyes every few hours as I felt the itching come on for instant relief. Within several days, the itching, redness, and swelling disappeared completely.

What you’ll need:
Peppermint Essential Oil,
Eucalyptus Essential Oil,
Lemon Essential Oil,
Tea Tree Essential Oil,
Almond Oil (optional),
A diffuser (optional).
A congested or runny nose is one of the most common symptoms of allergies. The ingredients in this Essential Oil recipe help relax and open the airways and tissues of the nose, throat, and lungs. They also tend to reduce the inflammation of the mucous membranes. This mixture is similar to the proprietary “Breathe” Essential Oil blend sold by several companies.
To inhale this blend, mix two drops each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, and Lemon Essential Oils. Use this for steam inhalation or in a diffuser. To apply this blend to your skin, use the same amounts of Essential Oils as for inhalation, but mix this with an ounce of Almond Oil. Rub this into your chest and around your collarbones and inhale.
4. Are You Suffering From Evil Spores? Here Is An Essential Oil Recipe For Fighting Evil Spores
What you will need: Lemongrass Essential Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil, a diffuser.
Some people have mold allergies, and for these people, molds and funguses can set off typical allergy symptoms such as a runny, stuffed-up nose, itchy and watery eyes, and a rash or hives.
Most of my allergies are related to the presence of molds in my house. If you are like me, then this recipe is for you. Lemongrass and tea tree essential oils both have antifungal properties that’ll help neutralize the mold in your house, while at the same time giving you some relief from allergy symptoms.
Use 3-5 drops of Tea Tree Oil and the same amount of Lemongrass Oil in your diffuser. Alternately, if you’ve got an air intake filter in your house, you can drip the same amount of the two Essential Oils on your filter.
5. Essential Oil Recipe For Getting Rid Of Hives
What you will need:
Lavender Essential Oil,
Chamomile Essential Oil,
Almond Oil (optional).
Hives are the red, itchy patches of skin that appear as a result of many allergies. Chamomile and Lavender both soothe irritated skin. They will reduce the itchiness, the redness, and the swelling. Also, it is my experience that Lavender has strong antihistamine properties, and that the hives will disappear entirely within several days.
To treat Hives with this blend, combine 10-15 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil and Lavender Essential Oil in 20 oz of water. Soak a washcloth in the mixture and gently wipe the affected areas for immediate relief. Alternately, you can also mix the Essential Oils with a carrier Oil such as Almond Oil, and apply this to the area where you have Hives.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil,
Cypress Essential Oil,
Tea Tree Oil.
This is another good recipe to help you out if you are fighting congested sinuses that stop you from breathing, give you headaches, and drive you insane. Eucalyptus Oil and Tea Tree Oil both have powerful anti-inflammatory effects on the respiratory system, while Cypress helps relieve excess body fluids.
For this recipe, you will want to either steam inhale the mixture, or to apply it to the skin on your chest and at the base of your neck. If you are inhaling, use 4-5 drops of Eucalyptus Oil, 4-5 drops of Tea Tree Oil, and 2-3 drops of Cypress Oil in a bowl of hot water. Cover your head with a towel, and breathe in. Make sure to keep your eyes closed, as they can get severely irritated from even small amounts of Essential Oils.
7. Get Relief From That Irritable Itch Now
What you will need:
Peppermint Essential Oil,
Lavender Essential Oil,
Almond Oil.

Simply dilute 2-3 drops of Lavender and Peppermint Essential Oil in an ounce of Almond Oil, and gently spread this across the areas that typically begin to itch. The three Oils will work to both relieve the irritation you’ve brought on by scratching yourself, as well as to prevent further itching breakouts.

Top 13 Essential Oils To Treat Anxiety And Depression

1. Lavender Oil
Lavender is one of the more common essential oils that are used to treat conditions like anxiety and depression. Inside lavender, over 150 different components interact with each other to produce a curative effect that offers anxiety and depression relief. When inhaled, lavender breaks down the fast brain wave (the root cause of anxiety) and replaces it with slower brain wave, helping an individual to relax and unwind.
You can also use lavender essential oil to help you sleep by diffusing it in the air, applying 1-2 drops to the feet before bed or adding 1-2 drops on your pillow at night.
When buying this essential oil, make sure that you do not compromise on quality – there is a lot of artificial crap sold in the market, so be careful not to buy it. In order to determine the quality of lavender, I just make sure that I am buying something high in esters and very low in cineol.
2. Rose Geranium
The floral aroma of rose geranium is something that anyone would love. This essential oil helps your body balance its hormonal levels and gives you an enhanced feeling of relaxation. If you find yourself stuck in an endless cycle of depression, anxiety, work, stress, and do not know what the way forward is; rose geranium can take away all the pain, and it is said that it works by stimulating the lymphatic system.
3. Roman chamomile
The smell of Roman Chamomile is very distinguished and varies from slightly sweet to fruity at times. While being used for over 2000 years for the treatment of several diseases, including vomiting, restlessness insomnia, and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Roman Chamomile primarily provides a calming effect to the user. Even though it probably will not produce a permanent cure for anxiety and depression, it can help with a variety of associated issues that cause such medical conditions.
4. Clary sage
Clary Sage is my personal favorite for nervous system disorders like anxiety and depression. While it is true that using this oil will not result in a cure, it will certainly enhance the effect of the treatment you are undergoing and make it easy for you to combat the unwanted episodes of fear, distress and anxiety.
5. Bergamot
Bergamot promotes the release of pent-up feelings that can lead to not only depression but also anxiety, insomnia and sudden mood swings. The fruity fragrance of Bergamot restores the hypothalamus to a calmer state called homeostasis, which later calms down an individual suffering from anxiety, stress or depression. In addition, it directs your nervous energy away from unproductive and addictive behavior, helping you to rediscover spontaneity and optimism. Putting it simply, Bergamot helps you to relax and “let go.” You can apply this essential oil to the feet, back and neck.
6. Jasmine
The calming impact of Jasmine can be compared to a well-known drug called valium that calms the nerves and brings a feeling of relaxation. Jasmine works by increasing the GABA activity in the brain, which helps to regulate the emotions of excitement, depression and anxiety. Although it is not a good idea to create a direct comparison with the drug valium, Jasmine might be one of your best bets in aromatherapy to help with your anxiety.
7. Sandalwood
Sandalwood has a sweet, woody, fragrance that can easily make someone less anxious. In addition, the fragrance is very rewarding for patients suffering from insomnia and other sleep disorders as it improves the overall quality of sleep. 8. Sweet marjoram
Sweet marjoram helps to regulate the blood circulation and causes a state of relaxation. Just like other essential oils, it will help the patient get a good night’s sleep. I use this oil in conjunction with other essential oils like lavender, bergamot, and chamomile for a more powerful effect.
9. Ylang ylang
Ylang ylang is a tropical plant that grows in Asia. While it can help with stress, panic and depression, it is much less potent when compared to jasmine. When using this essential oil, it is necessary to ensure that you get a top quality blend – otherwise you may end up using oil that will not offer you any kind of relief. You may also use this oil along with bergamot to make it more pleasant and effective.
10. Frankincense
Frankincense is the most valuable essential oil when it comes to helping you to allay fear, anxiety, nervousness, tension and stress.
This is also a great essential oil you can use to help your body maintain overall cellular balance, and to support your mind during times of extreme anxiety. Just rub 1-2 drops on feet and back of neck to calm down your mind and body. I also love mixing this oil with wild orange.
11. Wild Orange
Among all the citrus oils, wild orange is one of the best mood lifters. Because it helps to improve the blood circulation and detoxifies the liver and gallbladder, it is useful for supporting the body against panic.
Whenever you feel as if it is a doomsday or you are overwhelmed with anxiety, just rub this essential oil on the back of neck or bottom of feet and relax in its wonderful fragrance. It smells even better when blended with Frankincense!
12. Lemon
Lemon essential oil is a very versatile oil that is reviving, radiant, stimulating and uplifting. Asthma is a chronic condition of the air passage that makes breathing more difficult. In order to live a quality life and avoid several serious health issues down the line, getting your asthma treated as soon as possible is important.

What Are The Best Essential Oils To Use For Asthma Relief – My Top 9 List

1. Lavender’s anti-inflammatory impact on asthma
In a research study released in June of 2014, scientists reported on the anti-inflammatory effects of Lavender essential oil on patients suffering from asthma.
Bronchial asthma is characterized by bronchial allergic swelling, which minimizes the ability of the air passages to move air into and out from the lungs. Researchers examined the anti-inflammatory impact of essential oil of Lavender on artificially developed bronchial asthma in mice. They triggered asthma in 2 groups of mice and then subjected one group to daily inhalation treatment with Lavender oil for two weeks. The mice that got the Lavender treatment showed less resistance in the air passage. When compared with the other group, they had less eosinophil cells in the fluids and the tissues of their lungs. Consequently, the Lavender group had lesser mucous in the lungs.
2. Bergamot and Roman Chamomile Essential Oils
Bergamot and Roman Chamomile essential oils are antispasmodic in nature. These oils offer relief from unwanted muscle contractions that trigger the constricting of bronchial passages in asthma patients. You can mix a couple of drops of each of these essential oils and rub it on your back and chest for sufficient relief in cases of mild to extreme episodes of asthma.
3. Tea Tree Oil
This essential oil is a reliable expectorant that helps to get rid of mucous, which often triggers coughing and wheezing. Dip a clean face cloth in warm water and wring it to get rid of excess water. Pour a couple of drops of Tea Tree oil on the warm and wet face cloth. Breathe through it until the cloth is cool. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times in a day for substantial relief.
4. Eucalyptus Oil
The extreme aroma of Eucalyptus oil clears the blocked air passages of your lungs. The effects of Eucalyptus oil can be attributed to Eucalyptol, a chemical that separates mucous and phlegm, hence allowing an asthmatic patient to breathe easily. Add a couple of drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to warm water kept in a small water pot or a steam inhaler. Carefully lean over and breathe the steam. This will broaden the restricted air passages, offering you relief from lung spasms.
5. Frankincense Oil
This essential oil is an expectorant with anti-inflammatory character. It removes blockage from the nasal passages and lungs, which happens because of asthma. Frankincense oil is also an exceptional nervine that fights stress, anxiety, and tension. You need a diffuser to waft the scent of Frankincense oil into the air. You can equally massage the oil as a chest rub to ease blockage.
6. Peppermint Oil
Menthol found in Peppermint oil is a helpful decongestant that helps in breathing. This oil is found to be exceptional in overcoming severe muscle contraction that may occur in your respiratory tract. Its antispasmodic result eases breathing troubles that are prevalent in asthmatic clients. The vapors of Peppermint oil clears a stuffy nose within minutes. It also reduces wheezing and coughing problems. You just have to put a couple of drops of Peppermint oil on a cotton pad and breathe in the vapors for around 10 minutes.
7. Oregano Oil
This essential oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Asthmatics get immediate relief from breathing problems after inhalation of Oregano essential oil. Similarly, it keeps infections of the breathing system at bay. To breathe vapors of this oil, prepare a mist spray in an atomizer bottle, blending 25 drops of oregano oil with 5oz of water. You can also add a couple of drops of this oil to some water in an essential oil diffuser.
8. Clove Oil
This oil is an efficient remedy for asthma. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-spasmodic properties that clear the restricted breathing passages and improve the breathing in asthma patients. In order to use the essential oil of clove diffuse it in an oil diffuser or vaporizer for approximately half hour. You can also use this oil as a chest rub; however, make sure you have watered down the oil before using it directly on your skin. Remember to dilute it with Sweet Almond oil or water to prevent skin inflammation.
9. Thyme Oil
This essential oil is an extremely helpful expectorant that comes with anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties. This oil is also excellent at strengthening the respiratory system. In addition, it combats cold, cough, and all the signs and symptoms connected with asthma. I often prepare massage oil by combining thyme essential oil with bergamot. This massage oil can be applied on the chest. You can also use thyme essential oil in steam or vapor treatment to facilitate breathing and reduce the problems of breathlessness.
Best Essential Oil Recipes For Relief In Asthma
Prior to using essential oils for the treatment of asthma, it is recommended that you do a sniff test first. Just sniff the essential oil you plan to use to see if you get an allergic response to it. In case there is a problem, drop the idea of using that essential oil. With that said, here are some of the best essential oil recipes that have been proven to effective in cases of asthma:
1. Asthma Inhalation Rub
6 drops Lavender oil
4 drops Geranium oil
1 drop Marjoram oil
1 drop Peppermint or Ginger oil
1 ounce Grease
Mix the components well. Rub on throat and chest after a warm shower, especially before hitting the bed.
2. Essential Oil Steam
1/4 teaspoon Eucalyptus oil
3 cups of water
Bring water to a simmer, discard the heat, and add the essential oil. Allow your face (eyes closed) to rest just over the steam and cover the back of your head with a towel. Inhale the steam, showing up for fresh air as required. Fresh or dried eucalyptus leaves can be put in the water instead of the pure essential oil. You can also try this steam treatment in particular with Lavender essential oil.
3. Air Treatment Using essential Oils
Making use of essential oils with anti-spasmodic, decongestant and anti-histamine abilities in an ultrasonic diffuser can bring down the incidents of attacks of asthma.
Ultrasonic diffusers are useful for two reasons:
They eliminate dust, irritants, germs, and other pollutants from the air that are prone to cause asthma attacks.
They mix essential oils properly without the use of heat, thus putting them into the air in a texture that you can easily draw in.
Few of the essential oils that work best in the air treatment include Tea Tree, Ginger, Sandalwood, Clary Sage, Geranium, Rose, Lavender, Peppermint, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Cypress, Niaouli, Marjoram, Frankincense and Blue Chamomile.
Essential oil blends available in the market for air therapy are equally good choices to go with. It is worth nothing that Eucalyptus essential oil should not be used during the time of attack. You can use Lavender oil in a diffuser even during the attack as it helps in relaxing the spasms in the lungs. This might stop the attack right in its tracks or lower its extent. In addition, Lavender eases the mind, helping to alleviate the panic when you feel you cannot hold your breath.
4. A unique blend of Lavender, Eucalyptus and Peppermint
While promoting a peaceful sleep, Lavender also has a potential to clear your respiratory tract. When mixed with two other essential oils, it might help reduce asthma attacks. Here is how to use Lavender for best possible relief in asthma:
Peppermint essential oil – 8 drops
Eucalyptus essential oil– 20 drops
Lavender essential oil – 28 drops
Mix these 3 essential oils together and use the blend in a diffuser. Due to its ability to relax the nerves, I often use Lavender to alleviate coughs and to facilitate breathing during cold and flu. While being popular as an ingredient of most of the essential oil blends used in inhalers and vaporizers, Lavender can also be rubbed on the chest.
5. Asthma blend for the diffuser
10 drops Cypress
22 drops Niaouli
22 drops Frankincense
10 drops Chamomile Blue
16 drops Hyssop
How it works
Using oils that are highly relaxing and beneficial for the respiratory system, this mix deepens the breath and reduces the extent of an asthma attack.
How To Use
It is recommended that you inhale this mix immediately at the onset of an attack prior to using your puffer. Most times, the relief will be so substantial that you will not need to use the inhaler. Here are few different ways to use this blend for best possible relief:
Mix all the ingredients into a 5ml amber bottle and use in a diffuser.
Mix the required amount of drops of this blend onto an odorless roll-on that you can carry around and use as needed.
Put 3 drops of this mix on a tissue and breathe when required.
Most of the essential oils used in these recipes have decongestive and antihistamine abilities. Peppermint, Ginger and German chamomile are known to suppress the release of histamine. Rose, Marjoram and Frankincense promote deep breathing and allow the normal expansion of lungs. In order to fight bronchial spasms, you can always use the relaxants: Marjoram, Geranium, Rose, Lavender and Chamomile.

Few Precautions To Follow When Using Essential Oils

1. Always use a carrier oil
Essential oils must never be used in concentrated form (undiluted) over the skin. When used undiluted, they can trigger skin rashes. Mix 1-2 drops of essential oil in 1-3 teaspoons of carrier oil like avocado oil, almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil, or any other mild and skin-friendly oil. Make sure to mix essential oils with carrier oils immediately before using them. This avoids rancidity.
2. When using them on children, always keep these oils away from the air passages of their body
Always keep essential oils distant from the air passages (nose and mouth). When trying them on infants, use them on their feet. This is an excellent concept, due to the fact that it offers a good gap in between the air passages and the source of the essential oil. However, ensure that your infant does not then put his feet in his mouth. In addition, make sure that the essential oils are properly diluted in a carrier oil.
3. Do not use vaporizers in houses where people with breathing problems live
Do not use vaporizers in the house where a child or adult with a breathing problem lives. Many essential oils will irritate a weak breathing system. I have seen multiple instances of children finding it difficult to breathe due to the effects of essential oils being used by others of the family.
4. Never allow a child to ingest the essential oil
You should never let a child handle nor should they ingest any essential oils. It is worth noting that one single drop of essential oil amounts 15-40 cups of medicinal tea, or as much as 10 teaspoons of tincture. However, products that have the right combination of essential oils and other herbs are considered safe.
5. Stay away from essential oils if you are pregnant
If you are pregnant, it is of utmost importance that you don’t ingest any essential oils in any way.
Dating back centuries, people have used essential oils to counteract the effects of common colds. These natural extracts come from various parts of aromatic trees, grasses, and herbs. More specifically, manufacturers get these oils from roots, leaves, stems, flowers, barks and even fruits. Typical applications are adding to bath water, diffusing them in air, and applying them to the skin. The healing properties of these plant extracts make them suitable for boosting the immune system so that the body can fight back common infections like colds.

First Things First, What Is A Cold?

A cold is a mild infection that occurs in the nose, throat, sinuses and also in the voice box. Individuals who are suffering from colds experience a miserable combination of a runny nose and stuffy head that make regular activities like work or study difficult to accomplish. This infection is typically known as the common cold since it is a seasonal respiratory infection. Most people are likely to get infected with the virus during the colder weathers of the year when common cold cases are on the rise.

What Causes A Cold?

Numerous myths exist surrounding the causes of the common cold such as going outside with wet hair, but scientific facts dictate that a cold occurs as a result of many virus strains, the most common one being rhinovirus. An interesting fact is that one cannot contract the same virus twice even when the severe episodes recur at short intervals. The body becomes immune to each strain it tackles, but you are still susceptible to another two hundred plus strains out there.
Rhinovirus spreads in two ways; by getting in contact with infected people, for instance in a closed environment like an elevator, classroom, public transportation, and even on the streets. The second way of contracting the rhinovirus is through indirect contact with objects in the environment where the virus finds its way to the body openings like the mouth or nose.
Droplets of moisture carrying cold viruses neutralize on absorbent material like tissues and fabrics. However, these moisture droplets remain intact when they land on metallic and glass surfaces like mobile phones. Therefore, it is advisable to apply a spot of sanitizer as often as possible throughout the day.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, people who sleep for six hours or less per night increase the risk of contracting a cold by four times, after getting exposed to the virus either directly or indirectly. The study also concluded that our lifestyle habits have a positive impact on the immune system. Habits like poor diets, crash diets, excessive intake of alcohol, and smoking increase the chances of contracting cold infections. Lack of regular physical exercise increases your chances of contracting diseases.
Researchers at Appalachian State University found that respondents who worked out at least five days a week were less likely to contact the common cold or report cases of extreme symptoms, as compared to those who only worked out once per week.

How Long Does A Cold Last?

Typically, a cold resolve on its own after only a few days if the immune system is strong. However, there are cases where patients will suffer for more than ten days. When this happens, the patient is prone to developing pneumonia particularly if there are other underlying health problems previously unknown to them. In the duration of the cold, the sufferer experiences a range of symptoms such as congestion, sore throat, sneezing, low-grade fever, runny or stuffy nose, hoarse voice, and malaise. The latter refers to a general feeling of discomfort or uneasiness that can result from different conditions like the common cold.

Difference Between A Cold And Flu

The flu is a viral infection brought on by influenza which is a respiratory virus, while a cold arises from a viral infection by the adenovirus or coronavirus. While colds last for seven or ten days, the flu can extend to three or four weeks with persistent symptoms like shaking chills and profound fatigue even after the flu is long gone. Young children may experience vomiting and diarrhea.
There is no cure or vaccine for colds, but you can prevent the flu by vaccinations and treat them with OTC decongestants and pain relievers or antiviral drugs to shorten the duration of the flu or prevent complications like pneumonia. Also, influenza is more pronounced that colds, as it affects the lungs, joints and leads to respiratory failure, pneumonia, and fatalities. The flu causes epidemics and pandemics while a cold is simply a nuisance to the normal schedule.

Let’s now dive into the world of essential oils and start with the best single essential oils that are used to treat colds.
1. Peppermint essential oil
Peppermint is one of the most popular oils that helps to winter ailments due to its antiviral and antibacterial properties. This natural extract has menthol as the primary ingredient, and this contributes to relaxing the respiratory track, and stop coughs by thickening the mucus. According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, peppermint essential oil can help relieve colds owing to its antispasmodic activities.
All essential oils are highly concentrated, therefore prior to use, it should be diluted with a carrier oil such as jojoba or almond oil. Please be careful and increase the dilution by at least twice when using peppermint oil on very young children.
When using peppermint oil to treat the effects of colds, you can opt to massage two to three drops of peppermint directly on the chest, but remember to use a carrier to dilute, or put a few drops of peppermint into the humidifier which helps to spread the menthol thus clearing lung congestion or sinuses. Alternatively, try steaming by boiling water in a pot then adding a few drops of peppermint. Drape a towel to cover your head and contain the steam, so it creates a macro-environment of hot medicinal air. For optimal results, you may wish to add a few drops of eucalyptus and rosemary oil into the boiling water.
2. Thieves essential oil
The name of Thieves oil refers to the Black Death in the fifteenth century when thieves would smear this oil all over their bodies to protect them from contracting the bubonic plague as they robbed cemeteries. This essential oil blend comprises of natural extracts such as cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, rosemary, clove and lemon, all combined to form a robust oil.
Thieves oil has antibacterial, antiviral, and antiseptic properties that make it ideal for treating a list of infections including the common cold by using it as a sore throat spray to help alleviate the pain of throat irritations. Thieves oil works by blocking the protein synthesis of a virus, so it does not spread in the body.
According to a study by Weber State University, Thieves essential oil has a ninety-nine percent ability to kill airborne bacteria when out in a diffuser. Besides purifying the air, this oil helps to boost the immune system thus assist the body fight common ailments like colds. You can consume this oil by gargling a mixture of Thieves oil, water and a pinch of salt. This mode of consumption promotes easy absorption into the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract. You can also apply this oil on the chest or back to cure common colds. Dilute with a suitable carrier oil (almond or olive oil) to negate the risk of developing skin rashes. The drying properties of this oil help to keep the respiratory tract free of mucus. You can also use oregano essential oil to manage respiratory conditions like asthma, whooping cough, and pneumonia. When using oregano oil to treat common colds, I would recommend using a combination of this oil and other herbs such as pleurisy root, horehound, and mullein.

This essential oil has a sweet smell that mimics the smell of wood. Juniper oil comprises of more than eighty-seven active ingredients that have antibacterial, antiviral, and antimicrobial agents, which makes it ideal for curing respiratory infections and sore throats. You know the feeling: your ear is throbbing and sore, occasionally the pain is so intense any noise is hard to bear, you have a low-grade fever and an immediate desire for relief – you are battling an ear infection.
Ear pain is torment for people of any age; it makes toddlers cry, teenagers moodier, and adults can hardly function. If you are suffering from an ear ache, keep reading, I have the necessary information that can ease your symptoms and help you get back to healthy living.

What Exactly Is An Ear Infection?

While most people know an earache when they have one, they often don’t understand the intricate structure or delicate balance of the ear. Your ears have three distinct sections: the outer, middle, and inner ear.
Your outer ear includes all the parts of your ear that are visible and continues deep into the ear canal, ending at the tympanic membrane.
The tympanic membrane and tympanic cavity plus a few other intricate parts in the same area make up the middle ear.
The inner ear is comprised of the cochlea, two important nerves, and your eustachian tubes.
Under normal conditions, each section of your ear works together like a symphony orchestra, carrying sound to your brain for translation. But ear infections occur when one or more of these sections are under attack from a virus or bacteria.
When an ear is infected, these bacteria and viruses cause discomfort, swelling, redness, and even potential hearing loss in the affected ear(s). For any treatment to be effective, it is important to establish which part of the ear is affected, and what is causing the infection.

Ear Infections: Not All Are Created Equal

Outer Ear Infection
Outer ear infections are easy to diagnose and treat, but ouch do they hurt! Often this type of ear infection is caused by water remaining in the ear from swimming, bathing, showering, or any other water activity. That is why they are commonly called “swimmer’s ear.”
The water remaining in the ear canal acts as host to bacteria who breed and grow, causing painful itching and irritation over time. Outer ear infections commonly affect people of all ages and are inconvenient as well as extremely uncomfortable.
Middle and Inner Ear Infections
This type of ear infection affects both the middle and inner ear. Ear infections that occur behind the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, are known as middle ear infections. They are caused by the improper draining of the eustachian tubes in the inner ear. When the eustachian tubes are blocked, positioned improperly for good drainage, or become swollen from a cold or allergies, any fluid becomes trapped in the middle ear allowing bacteria to grow and infect the ear.
Middle ear infections are less acutely painful than outer ear infections, but the pain is often more intense. Temporary hearing loss is not uncommon with this type of infection, and without proper treatment, the eardrum can burst to relieve pressure and allow fluid to drain.
Although middle ear infections can happen at any age, they are most common in infants and young children whose eustachian tubes have not yet reached the optimum position for proper fluid drainage.

What Are The Effective Treatments And Cures For Ear Infections?

Traditional Medicine and Antibiotics
If you pay a visit to your primary care doctor with an ear infection, there is a high likelihood that you will be prescribed an antibiotic to clear it up. While this may seem like the most convenient and efficient route to take, modern researchers have discovered some notable disadvantages to the one size fits all antibiotic treatment for ear infections.

Pros and Cons of Antibiotic Use

Bacterial middle and outer ear infection respond quickly to antibiotic use, relieving pain quickly and eliminating the offending germs.
The most current research indicates that only 2 in 10 ear infections are bacterial, viruses are the culprit in the other eight making antibiotic use ineffective.
Many strains of bacteria are becoming antibiotic resistant due to excess exposure to the most commonly prescribed antibiotics.
Antibiotics are not bacteria strain specific, so taking antibiotics for an ear infection will eliminate the harmful bacteria in your ears, but will also attack the good bacteria that the rest of your body needs for optimal health.
I encourage a visit to your doctor for an accurate diagnosis, and cannot entirely discourage the use of antibiotics. They are necessary and beneficial in the right circumstances. Therefore, it is wise to do your research and make the decision that makes you most comfortable. But as you are aware, I am passionate about natural treatment options including the use of essential oils and home remedies for treating ear aches and infections that you may not have heard of before.

Essential Oils: A Natural Solution

Healers and Aromatherapists have used essential oils for millennia in treating and curing a variety of common ailments. But with modern medicinal advancements, understanding their benefits is rapidly becoming a lost art. Many essential oils are effective in alleviating symptoms and promoting healing from ear infections.

Most Effective Essential Oils For Soothing Painful Ears

While there is an extensive list of essential oils renowned for their ability to alleviate pain and treat infections, the ears require a higher level of delicacy. The following essential oils are gentle enough to use in your achy ears but still powerful in helping to treat them.
1. Tea Tree Essential Oil
Long known and used for its antimicrobial properties, tea tree oil effectively combats viral and bacterial infections. This oil also reduces swelling caused by irritation in the ears, and aids in evacuating unwanted fluid.
2. Thyme Essential Oil
This little herb’s essential oil is a healing wonder. Antibacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal because of the presence of the active compound thymol, thyme essential oil is a natural healing staple when battling an ear infection.
3. Lavender Essential Oil
Renowned for its calming scent, and used in aromatherapy for years, lavender oil is a wonder of natural healing. It relieves pain caused by ear infections and promotes increased blood circulation wherever applied, increasing the body’s ability to heal, and soothing irritation at the same time.
4. Basil Essential Oil
Fragrant basil does more than just enhance good food. Basil Essential Oil is both antiviral and antibacterial, so it’s efficient against either source of ear trouble. And for immediate symptom relief, basil essential oil soothes aggravated ear tissue and reduces swelling that can cause blockage of the inner and outer ear.
5. Olive Oil (not an essential oil)
The most impactful effect olive oil has when used for treating an ear infection is that it opens the Eustachian tubes. Because of this, any fluid filling the middle ear can properly drain, taking with it a multitude of virus or bacteria cells. Olive oil also soothes irritated and swollen tissue along the ear canal and on the ear drum. As a preventative measure, olive oil promotes ear health by preventing excess ear wax accumulation, keeping your ear canal clean.
6. Garlic and Mullein Oil (an oil blend)
Did you know that researchers recently discovered that garlic is more effective and speedier than two popularly prescribed antibiotics at killing foodborne bacterial strains? This finding doesn’t surprise proponents of natural healing, who have been touting garlic and mullein essential oil as a potent antibacterial agent and an active viral inhibitor. Crushed garlic also contains the soothing agent allicin to calm your tender ears.
Any of the above essential oils are a fantastic way to start healing naturally, and many can be used in combination. Consider treating your ear ache or infection with essential oils if your physician says it’s safe to do so.

Best Essential Oil Recipes For Ear Aches And Infection

While some essential oils are safe and effective to use without any additional ingredients, others benefit from added help. Below are listed the best ways to use the top essential oils for ear ache and infection relief.

Recipes and Application of Essential Oils

1. Tea Tree Essential Oil Recipe
Tea tree has medicinal properties that’s useful in dealing with ear infections and works best when combined with a few other ingredients as follows:
5 drops of tea tree oil
1 tsp colloidal silver
2 tsp olive oil
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
Heat all ingredients to just warm in a sterile pan over low heat. Lay your head on a towel, affected ear side up. Using a sterile dropper, carefully fill the ear with the above blend you’ve prepared. Allow the solution to stay in the affected ear for a full 10 minutes before draining. Repeat in the other ear if necessary. Continue to use 2-3 times each day for up to 3 days.
Alternatively, use 2-3 drops of tea tree oil in 1 tsp of coconut oil and massage it all around the affected ear, always in a downward motion, i.e. from the top of the ear, all around it and down the neck. Repeat as many times as necessary.
2. Thyme Essential Oil Recipe
Thyme essential oil works best in conjunction with a few additional natural ingredients to combat ear infections and ear ache. It’s also important to note that this remedy cannot be dropped into the ear canal as it may cause complications or make the ear infection worse.
1 tsp almond oil
2 drops thyme oil
2 drops lavender oil
Mix all oils well. Drop a cotton ball in the blend and insert/place the cotton ball just inside the outside of the sensitive ear for pain relief, i.e. do not insert the blend into ear canal. This solution is safe to use topically only and can be used as often as necessary.
3. Lavender Essential Oil Recipe
Lavender essential oil is safe used topically without any additional ingredients.
To use lavender oil: Apply 3-4 drops of lavender to a cotton ball and as above, insert/place just inside the outside of the painful ear. Lavender oil can be used as often as pain relief is required. Alternatively, you can add 1-2 drops of roman chamomile to the lavender.
In combination with the above and for a more effective ear ache relief, add 5 drops of lemon essential oil to 1 tsp of jojoba oil in your palm and gently massage this blend starting from the bottom of the ear lobe down the neck and also from the top of the ear and all around it. Do not rub upwards as you want the fluid in the ear to flow down.
4. Basil Essential Oil Recipe
No additional steps to take here. Basil essential oil is safe and easy to use by itself.
To use basil oil: Simply dampen a clean cotton ball with a few drops of basil essential oil and place gently in your affected ear. Do not force or push the cotton ball in, just allow the oil vapor to work its magic on your infection. Be sure to replace the used cotton ball with a new one 3-4 times each day to speed the recovery process.
Alternatively, add 3 drops of basil to 2 drops of oregano essential oil diluted in 1 tsp of jojoba or almond oil and gently massage the blend on the outside of your ear in a downwards motion.
5. Olive Essential Oil Recipe
Olive oil is safe to use on its own in the outer ear. If your earache or infection is caused by a blockage of the outer ear, olive oil will unclog the ear canal and promote healing.
To use olive oil: Heat the olive oil in a sterile container until just warm. Drop a cotton ball in the warm mixture and apply it to the outer ear. Leave in place for 5-10 minutes, until blockage softens. Drain ear and remove any excess wax. This process is safe to repeat as often as necessary for relief of pain and irritation.
6. Garlic and Mullein Oil Recipe
Easy to use to calm your weary ears, no added ingredients required.
To Use Garlic and Mullein Oil: Carefully place 2-3 drops in affected ear. Rest for 30 seconds before draining. Can be used once each hour, but for best results use at least five times each day.

How To Differentiate A Cold From The Flu?

Are you wondering whether you have a cold or flu? While colds and flu generally share the same symptoms, they are caused by different viruses. According to various studies, there are over 200 viruses that cause colds and only three that cause the flu. Even then, the flu bug is much more aggressive than a cold. So how do you know if a chest-rattling cough is a severe cold or the flu?
Usually, a cold begins with a sore throat, which goes away after a day or two. Nasal congestion, coughing, runny nose, sore throat and sneezing follow by the fourth day. Fever is more likely to affect children but is uncommon in adults.
While a cold comes on more slowly, the flu hits you pretty fast. Flu symptoms include a dry cough, sudden fever, muscle aches, sweating and exhaustion. Vomiting and diarrhea is mostly associated with swine flu.

What Are The Main Symptoms For Flu?

Flu Virus
Influenza is the virus that causes flu. There are three types of influenza virus: A, B and C. It is usually difficult to know exactly the type of virus causing the illness, so doctors often diagnose a flu-like illness. It is commonly associated with the symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat, stuffy or runny nose, body aches, headaches and fatigue. The disease caused by influenza virus tends to be worse than other diseases which cause a flu-like illness. Even if you are healthy, flu can make you go to bed.
Stomach Flu
The stomach flu is caused by a number of different viruses that attack the gastrointestinal system. If you have the stomach flu, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fever, weight loss and sore muscles. Typically, the symptoms develop within 24 to 48 hours of being exposed to the virus and resolve within a few days. However, it’s not uncommon for the flu to last up to 10 days.
Flu Aches
More common with the flu, widespread aches are a sign that your body is releasing chemicals to help fight the infection. Typically, the aches occur in the joints and muscles and are usually the first symptoms of flu. They are generally mild and will go away with time. However, severe and incapacitating aches may signal serious underlying conditions that should be evaluated by a health professional.
Chronic Flu
Chronic flu is a serious condition which requires immediate medical attention. If you are a culprit of constant bouts of flu, have achy burning muscles, high-grade fevers and extreme nasal congestion, you should consider getting tested for chronic flu. With chronic flu, the body is mainly weak and tends to catch every virus going around no matter how hygienic one tries to be. One can also feel irritable and unable to perform routine activities as a result of prolonged fatigue.
Flu In Children
Typical signs of flu in children include extreme temperature, headache, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, dry cough and general ill feeling. Vomiting tends to be more pronounced than diarrhea. The symptoms are usually at their worst in the first two days. Then they gradually ease over a couple of days. An irritating cough may persist for more than a week after symptoms have disappeared.

Drinking garlic water does not sound particularly alluring, but wait until you hear the beneficial addition garlic adds to your home-made remedy. In fact, I will go to the extent of declaring garlic a healing potion to the body. This is because of its numerous benefits, the main one being its immune-boosting properties. Others may differ: I say try any of these ingredients and listen to your body.

Salt water helps ease nasal congestion, while getting rid of viruses and bacteria from your nose. Mix a pinch of salt in a pint of warm water. Use a small syringe to squeeze water into your nose then squirt the mixture inside. Let it drain and repeat the same process two times before treating the other nostril.
7. Lots of Water
Drinking lots of water helps to make mucus thinner and therefore easier to get rid of when you blow or cough. In this way, your sinuses will drain better since you won’t be dehydrated, making it less likely for the symptoms of flu to progress.

Gout is a type of arthritis where small particles of sodium urate are deposited in and around the joints. The most common symptom of gout pain is intense pain in the joints accompanied by redness and inflammation. While gout generally affects the joint of the big toe, it can influence any joint of the body. Signs of gout develop very quickly, can go from bad to worse in just 6 to 24 hours, and last for 3 to 10 days. Anybody with gout can expect to have more episodes of pain in the future.

What Triggers Gout Pain?

Gout is caused due to the accumulation of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is a waste product that is produced by the body everyday and is meant to be excreted by the kidneys. If your body is producing uric acid in large quantities or you excrete too little uric acid through your kidneys, it starts to accumulate and trigger the formation of sodium urate crystals in and around the joints. These hard needle-shaped particles build up slowly over many years and you will never know their formation in your body unless diagnosed by the doctor.

Why Use Essential Oils For Quick Relief In Gout Pain?

Essential oils have been used since ages for joint conditions such as gout pain, due to their ability to relieve painful points and remove the uric acid particles that are stuck within them. The essential oils of angelica root, basil, carrot seed, coriander, rosemary, juniper berry, hyssop, grapefruit and cypress can best be used for this purpose.
The most popular way of using the above oils for best relief in gout is through massage. Simply dilute the essential oil of your choice with a good carrier oil such as castor oil and massage the blend over the areas affected. Follow this procedure for at least 15 minutes and repeat every few hours. Having said that, here are some of the best essential oils I recommend for relief in gout pain. You do not need to use all of them. Just choose a few of your favorites and whisk yourself up a therapeutic mix.

Cholesterol is a natural substance produced by the liver that the body needs for the proper function of hormones, nerves and cells. Cholesterol that circulates as lipids (fats) in the blood, also called plaque, has a tendency to deposit itself on the walls of arteries reducing the blood flow to the vital areas of the body.
If such deposits continue to build up in the long term, that heightens the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Generally, our body tends to keep the cholesterol levels balanced but due to the presence of large amount of hydrogenated fats and refined carbohydrates in our diet, the balance of High (raised) LDL (bad) cholesterol and low (reduced) HDL (good) cholesterol gets disturbed. This imbalance is one of the major causes of a heart attack or stroke, among others such as hypothyroidism, stress, diabetes, high blood pressure and inactivity.

Get at least two tablespoons of olive oil a day to get the most out of it.
5. Grapefruit
Presence of d-limonene in grapefruit makes it one of the best foods for weight loss. It contributes to the release of fatty acids in the blood, which the body breaks down to produce energy. D-limonene helps to reduce weight by lowering lipid peroxidation and the cholesterol levels in the body. Try a glass of grapefruit juice before meals to help fill you up, so you’ll eat fewer calories during meals.

Precautions / Recommendations On Using Essential Oils For Best Possible Results For Cholesterol Reduction

Do not ingest essential oils in undiluted form.
Do not let children ingest essential oils.
Do not use neat / undiluted essential oils because they are highly concentrated. Neat or undiluted essential oil may cause chemical burn to the skin.
For a cholesterol-lowering effect, buy only oils that are available in capsules and labeled “standardized extracts.” Standardized extracts are diluted and safer for consumption. Follow the dosage instructions on the manufacturer’s label. After two or three months, get your cholesterol level checked and monitor your progress.
Rotation of essential oils is more effective, i.e. swap essential oil after every two to three weeks of use.
If you are on prescription drugs for issues related to heart disease or high blood pressure, do not use essential oils before consulting your physician or holistic doctor.
Hypothyroidism is a medical condition in which the thyroid gland stops producing enough thyroid hormone. Low levels of thyroid hormones interfere with the body’s metabolic process, ability to maintain proper functionality of the cells and the ability to maintain healthy muscles and bones.

What Are The Symptoms Of Hypothyroidism?

While the symptoms of hypothyroidism vary greatly based on the body type and pre-existing diseases in an individual, some of the symptoms of the disease most commonly seen in people suffering from hypothyroidism are:
Dry hair

Usually when you are diagnosed with a thyroid problem, doctors want to put you on medicine for the rest of your life. Frankincense can help with many different symptoms of hypothyroidism. Weak digestion leads to indigestion and constipation. A small drop of this oil can facilitate the release of digestive enzymes that help accelerate the process of digestion. Frankincense is also useful for those that have dry skin due to low thyroid function. Based on my experience, Frankincense is one of the most effective oils you can use to balance hormone levels in your body and relieve stress.
Here is how to use Frankincense for best possible management of the disease:

For faster results, you may also consider taking 1 tablespoon each of evening primrose oil and flaxseed oil on a daily basis.
12. Lemon oil
Add 1-3 drops of essential oil of Lemon to every glass of water that you drink during the day. In addition, use only glass containers when drinking lots of water with lemon as the lemon may start reacting with the material of the container you are using. Moreover, as a victim of an autoimmune disease, you are more likely to be sensitive to the toxins present in plastic and polystyrene.
13. Geranium essential oil
The health benefits of geranium essential oil can be attributed to its properties as a diuretic, astringent, anthelmintic and cytophylactic substance. Its ability to balance the hormones, relieve stress and depression, reduce inflammation and irritation, improve skin health, mitigate the effects of menopause and improve blood circulation make it useful for conditions like hypothyroidism.
14. Essential oil of clove

Put 1-3 drops of the essential oil of clove in a tablespoon of carrier oil (jojoba oil or almond oil) and massage directly on the bottom of the feet. Cover the feet with socks and wear them overnight.
PS: The use of clove oil in excess amounts may be toxic, so be careful when using clove as a home remedy. Menopause can be defined as a condition where the menstrual periods of a woman go missing for a period of more than 12 months. It is that time of a female’s life when the ovaries stop functioning. The process is gradual (perimenopausal transition period) and the average age a woman experiences menopause is around 51 years, but in some cases, it may happen as early as at the age of 30 or as late as at the age of 60. There is no determined laboratory test for predicting the time a woman will have her menopause.

What are the symptoms of menopause?

The symptoms of menopause include mood swings, frequent urinary and vaginal problems, abnormal vaginal bleeding and hot flashes. Few of the complications that a woman is likely to develop after menopause include heart disease and osteoporosis.

What are hot flashes?

Many females also experience episodes of hot flashes during menopause due to low estrogen levels in the body. A hot flash is a feeling of warmth, sometimes accompanied with redness, which spreads throughout the body. The hot flashes are often followed by perspiration. They can last from a few seconds to half an hour and may occur at any time of the day. The primary reason behind these hot flashes is the frequent opening and constriction of blood vessels, due to the effect of menopause.

Best Essential Oils To Use For Menopausal Relief

1. Essential oils to improve the estrogen levels in the body
Different essential oils like Basil, Sage, Coriander, Angelica, Cypress, Fennel, Anise and Clary Sage contain estrogen hormone like component, which is quite helpful during menopause. When these essential oils are used along with Lemon or Peppermint, they can help in relieving hot flashes too. Since the skin directly absorbs the essential oils, the application of essential oils benefits is most beneficial to fatty areas of the body where hormones are produced and stored.
2. Essential oils for balancing hormones
Essential oils like Neroli, Lavender and Geranium are helpful in balancing the hormones and modifying the menopausal symptoms. You will find these essential oils being used in popular European face creams that aim at reducing the signs of aging. As a rejuvenating cream, these oils not only give life to a dry skin tone but also combat vaginal dryness. Add Vitamin E oil to improve the flexibility and strength of the vaginal membrane and for quick healing of the abrasions that may have occurred due to sexual intercourse on a dry vagina. Besides aromatherapy, it is also important to follow a strict dietary regimen in order to get quick relief from unpleasant symptoms of menopause.
3. Essential oils for hot flashes
The essential oil of Clary Sage offers substantial relief in menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. Additionally, Thyme, Peppermint and Roman Chamomile can also help relieve hot flashes naturally. Just take 3 drops of any of these oils and massage gently over the back of the neck and feet for quick relief in hot flashes.
Essential oils can also be inhaled directly from a tissue for an immediate relief in hot flashes, if you are away from home. Otherwise, you can put them in your vaporizer or diffuser following the regular procedure.
At the very first sign of hot flashes, immediately put 1-2 drops of Peppermint essential oil on a tissue and inhale smoothly. I always carry a small bottle of Peppermint hydrosol spray in my purse and spray over my neck, head and the face whenever I feel hot flashes are coming. If you are commuting most of the times, put a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and keep it in your car near yourself.

Different Ways Of Using Essential Oils For Quick Relief In Menopausal Symptoms

When it comes to the use of essential oils, less is always good. Essential oils are concentrated natural extracts and using just a few drops is enough to impart a strong healing effect. Having said that, here are some of the best ways of using essential oils for quick relief in menopausal symptoms:
1. Use as a body moisturizer
Mix 5-8 drops of essential oil of your choice to 1 tablespoon (15 ml) unscented cream, lotion, or “carrier oil” like
Apricot Kernel or Sweet Almond oil. Apply this body moisturizer twice or thrice in a day for quick relief.
2. Inhalation
Put a few drops of essential oil of your choice on a tissue, cotton ball or handkerchief and inhale whenever the symptoms appear. Alternatively, you can also use an electric aromatherapy diffuser at home.
3. Room Spray
Add 2-10 drops of essential oil in a small spray bottle. Add 1 oz of vodka and shake well to disperse the essential oil. Add 2 oz of purified water and mix again before spraying. Try to avoid spraying near wooden surfaces as essential oils can stain.
4. Massage / Bath Oil
Mix 8 drops of essential oil with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of carrier oil. Add to a warm water bath or use it for a massage.
5. Milk Bath
Mix 8 drops of essential oil in ½ cup of milk or cream to disperse the oil and pour in the hot tub to create luxurious aromatherapy bath milk.

Best Essential Oil Recipes For Menopausal Relief

While there are different opinions on what is best for menopausal relief and what is not, here are some of the essential oils that are known to deliver the best results: Sage, Peppermint, Fennel, Lime Nutmeg, Cypress, Neroli, Lavender, Coriander, Sweet Red Thyme, Marjoram, Jasmine, Clary Sage, Orange, Rosewood, Grapefruit, Chamomile, Rose, Petitgrain, Geranium and Basil. Using these oils, here are some of the recipes I can confidently recommend for quick relief in menopausal symptoms:
Recipe 1 – Essential Oil Patch
You can use any of the aforementioned essential oils for preparing an essential oil patch. Dip a cotton ball or gauze in 10 or more drops of fractionated cotton oil and then add few drops (not more than five) of essential oil of your choice. Put the patch straight over the ovaries and above the pubic bone using adhesive tape. Follow this process at least twice a day. Bandages may be also be used instead of adhesive tapes.
Recipe 2 – For vaginal massage
This technique is simple but I find it very helpful. Vaginal muscles tend to lose their strength as they become thin. A gentle massage with fingertips dipped in a mix of carrier oil and essential oils chosen from the previously mentioned list will offer great relief. This is also a good option to use for pain during intercourse or dry vaginas.
Recipe 3
2 drops of essential oil of Sage
7 drops of essential oil of Lemon
11 drops of essential oil of Geranium
Add all of the ingredients to 1oz of Coconut oil and massage over the body. You can also add them to your bath.
Recipe 4 – For instant relief in hot flashes
Add 4 drops Peppermint essential oil to a quartz of water. Keep this blend in a refrigerator and shake it well twice a day for next two days. After two days, put this blend in a small bottle that you can carry with you while going out. If you experience hot flash, then wet a cloth using a small amount of this water, apply over the back of the neck and face, and drink the remaining water. This will offer you the kind of relief you never imagined.
Recipe 5 – For night sweats
10 drops of Thyme essential oil
10 drops Sage essential oil
20 drops of Lemon essential oil
20 drops of essential oil of Grapefruit
Add abovementioned ingredients to 2oz fractionated Coconut oil and use for body massage or add to your warm bath.
Recipe 6 – Swelling and water retention
10 drops of Peppermint essential oil
10 drops of Juniper essential oil
10 drops of Fennel essential oil
30 drops of Lemon essential oil
Add the above-mentioned ingredients to a warm bath or to 2oz fractionated Coconut oil and massage the lower back and abdominal area.
Recipe 7 – Menopause body oil
2 ounces vegetable oil or body lotion
1 drop Jasmine oil
1 drop Angelica oil
2 drops Clary Sage oil
5 drops Geranium oil
6 drops Lemon oil
Mix all the ingredients and use at least one time in a day, as a lotion, as massage oil, or in a bath (add 2 teaspoons in a warm bath). Alternatively, you can add the same essential oils to 2 ounces of body lotion. Use any unscented lotion with natural ingredients.
Recipe 8
The best way to have the essential oils incorporated in your daily routine is to add them regularly to your bath water. Add any of the recommended essential oils (6-8 drops in total) to the bath water, and enjoy a good long relaxing bath. Adding a few drops of each Geranium, Cypress oils and Clary Sage in your bath can help to reduce hot flashes and night sweats as well.
Recipe 9 – Hot flash balm recipe
10 to 13 drops of Peppermint essential oil
2 tablespoons grated tea beeswax
5 tablespoons of Almond Oil
5 teaspoons of organic Coconut oil
Set the Sweet Almond oil, Coconut oil and beeswax in a double boiler. In the absence of double boiler, you can put the oil in a small glass bottle and put the bottle in a pan of water with something under the bottle to keep it raised from the bottom of the pan and away from the direct heat. Direct exposure to heat may destroy the healing properties of essential oils. Heat gently (not boiling!) until the wax melts.
Remove from heat and let this mix cool for about 20-30 seconds. Now add Peppermint oil and stir gently with a wooden spoon, chopstick, or bamboo skewer (use anything except metals).
When properly mixed, pour this balm in a container to cool. You can use lip balm tubs, small metal boxes or lip balm tubes.
Enjoy your hot flash cooling balm!
Recipe 10 – Cooling mist for hot flashes
Roman Chamomile and Clary Sage essential oils help to balance mood changes and Peppermint can relax hot flashes. To make your own cooling mist, mix the following ingredients in a 4 oz dark glass bottle spray (especially great for night sweats!):
8 drops each of Roman Chamomile, Clary Sage and Peppermint essential oils
1 ounce of witch hazel extract
Distilled water 3 oz
Recipe 11 – Bath followed by massage
Essential oils I recommend for hormonal balance include Sage, Geranium, Coriander, Angelica, Cypress, Fennel, Anise and Clary Sage. Adding 10-20 drops of any of these essential oils in your bath can help relieve your symptoms. After the bath, follow this recipe:
1 drop of Geranium
1 drop of Neroli
2 drops of Clary Sage
An ounce of carrier oil
Mix all ingredients and gently massage the lower back and abdomen.
Recipe 12
To help relieve hot flashes, essential oils of Sage, Lemon, Geranium and Peppermint are the best ones you can choose. Add a few drops of each of these oils in your bath or lotion. The essential oil of Peppermint, in particular, has an instant cooling effect. A warm footbath with a couple of drops of Peppermint oil is also very relaxing and refreshing.

Few Other Common Symptoms Of Menopause And Countering Them With The Use Of Essential Oils

Mood swings are one of the common symptoms of menopause and pre-menopause.  During this period, emotions are uncontrollable and wild. Episodes of crying or panicking without any reason or the feeling of sudden / strange fear can arise suddenly and disappear just as quickly, leaving the woman drained and dazed. At times like these, burning essential oils in an aroma lamp can be fruitful. Oils such as Neroli, Celery seed, Chamomile, Marjoram, Lavender and Melissa can help relieve sudden outbreaks and calm nerves by entering the limbic system and working directly into the brain centre to regularize the production of chemical substances. When hormones go wild, give your body and mind time to balance themselves. Sitting quietly with essential oils wafting through the consciousness can bring peace and tranquility that you need the most.
Bathing with essential oils, especially sea minerals can be refreshing and stimulating for peri-menopausal women. Fatigue and lethargy is associated with imbalanced hormones. If you are unable to handle even the smallest or easiest of tasks, take some time for yourself and enjoy a warm bath filled with aromas of Lemon, Verbena, Basil, Geranium, Peppermint, Helichrysum or Rosemary. These will help you uplift your mood and on top of it, stimulate the mind. Poor memory and lack of concentration are often associated with menopause. These previously mentioned oils could help clear the anxiety and bring more focus and attention.
Night sweats is another condition that often becomes unbearable during the menopausal phase. Some of the good essential oils to relieve night sweats include Chamomile, Lemon, Geranium, Fennel and Clary Sage. Combining all these essential oils with carrier oil and massaging clockwise around the belly and breast can improve lymphatic flow, while allowing the oil to enter the blood stream and then the endocrine system where they can work to balance hormones.

In fact, most of these often lead to nausea. Also, there are over 700 causes of nausea, ranging from the physical to psychological and from the innocuous to the serious.
To add to the problem, nobody is spared the wrath of the dreaded nausea! You can be young, old, a man or a woman, at some point, you must have experienced the distressing feeling of your stomach muscles contracting violently to throw out everything it holds. Unfortunately, nausea is not something that you will experience only once in your life.
Since, there is little that can be done to predict a bout nausea, the next best thing is to treat it on the double. And, this is where essential oils come into the picture. Read on to learn more about nausea, its causes and how to treat the condition.

So, What Is This Nausea Business?

Physically, it is simply your belly getting ready to purge its contents. Since your stomach more or less resembles a pouch, the muscles in the abdomen contract to squeeze the contents out of it. In anticipation that the contents will be pushed upwards, the muscular ring that separates the stomach and the esophagus gets relaxed or opens and the wind pipe is closed to prevent the undigested matter from entering the lungs.
Nausea may or may not lead to vomiting, but your body sure gets prepared for the act and that is what leads to the queasy feeling. Often nausea is accompanied by an increase in heart rate, sweating and dizziness.

What Really Causes Nausea?

As mentioned above, the causes of nausea can be numerous. Generally, these can be divided into 5 categories:
1. Physical
Any sort of problem with a pelvic organ can cause nausea such as irritation of the gastric tract or stomach, intestinal blockage, constipation, hyperacidity, inflammation of the pancreas, liver, or kidneys, gall bladder stones and gastroenteritis.
Vertigo is also a common cause of nausea. Dizziness can be caused by a problem with the balancing centers in the ears or due to spondylitis. Similarly, low blood pressure, low blood sugar level, food poisoning, ingestion of bacteria through food can also cause nausea.
2. Seriously Physical
Issues with the brain and nerves can also lead to nausea. In such cases, the underlying condition is typically quite concerning. For instance, brain tumor, brain injury, stroke, meningitis and brain hemorrhage are conditions that can lead to nausea and vomiting.
3. Mental
Emotional distress of any kind as well as repulsive or unpleasant sights and odors can also cause nausea. Along the same lines, intense pain can also cause nausea in some people.
4. Hormonal
Nearly 50% of pregnant women suffer from nausea in the first trimester. Menstruationcan also cause nausea in some women.
5. Side Effects
The condition is a common side effect of contraceptive pills, certain herbal preparations, anti-depressants and chemotherapy drugs. Many people experience nausea while recovering from the anesthesia administered during surgery. Similarly, over consumption of alcohol and withdrawal symptoms of alcohol and certain drugs also cause nausea.

How Long Does It Take To Get Rid Of Nausea?

With the right treatment, nausea can be brought under control within a matter of minutes. Usually, the use of multiple treatment approaches at once works the best and yields faster results. There are also treatment modalities that help to prevent nausea if it is caused due to constipation, motion sickness and stomach flu. However, if you have a chronic issue with nausea, you should see a doctor to understand the cause of the condition.
Can essential oils really help with nausea, you bet!

Kick Nausea To The Curb In 2 Minutes Flat, Impossible You’ll Say!

This one is for people who suffer from frequent bouts of nausea owing to indigestion, hyperacidity or other gastric concerns. This recipe combines fresh produce and essential oils and has to be prepared in advance. You will need
Ginger root – a large piece
4-5 lemons
2 drops fennel essential oil (edible version)
2 drops dill essential oil (edible version)
10-15 fresh mint leaves
Sea salt to taste
Wash and peel the ginger root and cut into thin strips. Squeeze the juice from 4-5 lemons or more, depending on the size of the fruit. You will need enough lemon juice to pickle the ginger slices. In a mason jar, pour the lemon juice and add the essential oils to it. Close the jar and give the mixture a good whisk to combine the lipids and the citric acid.
Then add the ginger root slices and the mint leaves. Season with some salt and put the lid back on the jar. Let your special pickle stand in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. You will see the white ginger slices taking on a lovely pink hue, which means they are ready for savoring. When the familiar feeling of dizziness or nausea takes over, simply reach into the refrigerator and eat 5-7 slices of this ginger pickle and your symptoms will be resolved in a matter of minutes.

You can eat it once the rind is soft and has lost most of its sour taste.
Yeast infection is one of the causes of Candida, which is a common problem that 3 out of 4 women will face at some point in their lives. Candida manifests itself in the form of irritation in the vagina and those suffering from this disease are likely to experience a burning sensation during urination and/or during intercourse along with pain in the vagina. While in most cases the overgrowth of yeast is limited to vaginal region, some people may have this infection in the lower abdomen, under the breasts and under skin folds and nails.

What Is A Yeast Infection?

Yeast is always present in the vagina in small quantities. However, in the event of uncontrolled growth of this fungus, the resultant itching, burning and redness makes one very uncomfortable. In some cases, a thick white and odorless discharge resembling cottage cheese may be observed coming out of the vagina.

Common Causes Of Yeast Infection

Excessive use of antibiotics is one of the main causes of yeast infection. Antibiotics generally damage the bacteria present in the vagina, which in turn upsets the balance of micro-organisms present in the vagina. Hormone levels in the body also influence the balance of the bacteria. Women who use contraceptives are more prone to fungal infections. Women with weak immune systems are also likely to experience yeast infections. Apart from that, excessive stress, lack of sleep, excessive intake of alcohol, pregnancy, diabetes, chronic diseases and the use of steroids can also cause excess growth of yeast.

Types Of Yeast Infection

There are three types of vaginal yeast infection:
1. Yeast infection caused by Candida
The most common form of Vaginitis is fungal infection caused by one of the species of fungi known as Candida. Candida lives naturally in the vagina and other areas of the body in small quantities and rarely causes any issues. However, it thrives in hot, humid environments, and under these conditions, it can grow in number, causing a vaginal infection.
2. Bacterial Vaginosis
Along with Candida, a friendly bacteria known as lactobacilli lives in the vaginal region. When the presence of lactobacilli reduces in the vagina, it can trigger a disease called bacterial vaginosis. Under such conditions, the lactobacilli is replaced by infection-causing bacteria, which in most cases is Gardnerella.
With bacterial vaginosis, a woman is likely to notice a thick or solid color discharge that is transparent or white in color. It is unlikely that itching or burning symptoms will be present. A fishy smell can be significant, especially during sexual intercourse.
3. Trichomonas
Among the three most common types of vaginal infections, Trichomonas Vaginalis is the only one that falls under the category of sexually transmitted infections (STI). Commonly called as “trich”, this infection is caused by a unicellular parasite trichomonas vaginalis, which transfers itself from one person to another.

While the use of Essential Oils is known to improve the general health of elderly people; however, one has to be careful when blending and mixing Essential Oils that are to be used in their weight loss therapy. Since aging often causes weakness, experts suggest a lower dilution rate for older people trying to lose weight. Heart patients trying to lose weight should choose their Essential Oils cautiously

Care for sensitive skin

People with sensitive skin are usually prone to allergies, rash, irritations and reactions. For such individuals, certain Essential Oils should be used with care and precaution, as they are more likely to cause skin irritation or sensitization than other normal Oils. Experts suggest doing a patch test’ before applying a new Oil or Oil blend.
For those that are trying to lose weight and have sensitive skin at the same time, you have to be extra cautious when using Oils such as Oak moss, Benzoin, Cinnamon, Black pepper, Clove, Lemon, Pine, Ginger, Fennel, Parsley seed, Basil, Lemon verbena, Wintergreen, Citronella, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Cumin and Oregano.

Hepatoxicity and Essential Oils

Some Essential Oils used for weight loss cause hepatoxicity (liver toxicity). Some Oils may make it hard for you to concentrate and you should avoid them as a diffuser or having aromatherapy with them if it is mandatory for you to have high levels of concentration during work.

Pros And Cons Of Using Essential Oils To Lose Weight

1. Using Essential Oils for weight loss makes you a lot more healthier
In addition to providing the weight loss benefits, Essential Oils support emotional and mental clarity. They support all the body systems, from brain to heart to lungs to liver, making them a healthy alternative to weight loss surgery and medications.
2. Essential Oils work on the emotional well-being of an individual
Emotional state is known to trigger the desire for food. The sense of smell can suppress the irrational emotional responses we have towards food.
1. No regulation and limited research
Varicose veins are the veins located under the skin of your legs that have become enlarged, bulging and are full of twists and turns. While varicose veins may affect your life in many ways, they do not cause any serious medical conditions in the majority of individuals. Family history as well as ageing may increase the risk of the condition.
Generally, women are more prone to suffering from varicose veins and around 50% of females may end up with varicose veins at some point in their lives. Hormonal factors like pregnancy, menopause, puberty, using birth control pills, and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) all contribute to the worsening of the condition.

Why Varicose Veins Are Such A Major Issue During Pregnancy?

It is rather common for expectant women to develop varicose veins through the first trimester. Due to the enlarged size of uterus and hormonal imbalance during the pregnancy, there is increased pressure around the veins causing them to enlarge. Varicose veins occurring during pregnancy often correct themselves within about three months of the delivery; however, with successive pregnancies, these abnormal veins are likely to remain for a longer duration.

Why Essential Oils Are Useful For Conditions Like Varicose Veins?

Conventional treatments are generally conservative. Anyone affected with varicose veins will be asked to keep their legs elevated during sleep, avoid excessive standing, as well as wear elastic support hose. Essential oils can be your best ally in the fight against varicose veins. They can be used both independently and along with other treatments. Essential oils like rosemary, rose, peppermint, neroli, myrrh, lemon, juniper, yarrow, ginger, geranium, frankincense, cypreus, cedarwood and clary sage are often very useful in restoring the normal blood circulation in areas affected with varicose veins. Having said that, here are some of the best essential oils I believe can play a supportive role in your struggle against the varicose veins:

Two Important Factors That Will Help In Getting Rid Of Varicose Veins

No. 1: Essential oils that promote good blood circulation
The essential oils mentioned below strengthen the capillary walls of your blood vessels (weak blood vessels cause varicose veins) and help in promoting better blood circulation.
Cypress (extremely effective)
Helichrysum (This is among the more expensive essential oils that are available in the market. It helps you get rid of the coagulated blood within the veins when applied topically over the skin.)
Lemon (very efficient)
Juniper Berry
No. 2: Essential oils that reduce inflammation
It is highly likely for people suffering from varicose veins to have inflammation. Just add 1 or 2 of the following essential oils to the blend you are using to get rid of the disease:
While using these essential oils, make sure that you add the essential oils in the right quantity. Only when mixed in right quantities will these essential oils help you get rid of this troublesome condition.
Do not forget to add a carrier oil
Although some essential oils, like lavender, may be applied over the skin without diluting them in a carrier oil, it is better to use the oils in diluted forms. I prefer using olive and coconut oil as carrier oil to deal with varicose veins; however, you can also go for almond and jojoba oils, as they are perfect for almost any type of skin.
Almond penetrates deep into the skin, carrying the essential oils along with it. Additionally, it stimulates the collagen production and so speeds up the healing process.
Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, jojoba is wonderful when it comes to healing the wounded veins and stimulating the production of collagen. This is the best carrier oil you can use for inflamed and often painful varicose veins.

Massage using this blend over the affected areas 2-3 times in a day.
Blend 2 – Body butter for varicose veins
1/4 cup coconut oil (raw and organic)
1 tablespoon vitamin E liquid (raw and organic)
1/4 cup jojoba oil (raw and organic)
1/2 cup shea butter (raw and organic)
30 drops of the essential oils of your choice. My personal favorite combo is 5 drops fennel, 5 drops of helichrysum, 10 drops of cypress and 10 drops of lemon
Heat the shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler on medium to low heat. Stir up until the oils melt, only a few minutes.
Remove from heat.
Add jojoba oil, vitamin E liquid, and the essential oils of your choice.
Refrigerate this blend for about an hour or so until it is chilled. You will get off-white and almost solid (not completely solid) blend.
Mix by using a hand blender for about 15 minutes until you see white peaks appearing.
Store the resulting mix in a glass container. These jars are great.
Massage using this blend making round circles directed towards the heart to promote better blood circulation (i.e. start from your ankles and proceed towards the legs).
This body butter can be preserved for about six months. Store this at room temperature. During warm weather, the body butter may slightly melt. You may keep this in the fridge if this happens (or if perhaps you like cold body butter).
Note: I do not recommend using this body butter during the night. These circulation-boosting essential oils raise your blood circulation and they are also very stimulating! So, this could disrupt your restful sleep.
Blend 3 – Blend for quick relief from itching
St. John’s wort tincture – 2 tsp
Carrot seed oil – 6 drops
Lavender oil – 6 drops
Chamomile oil – 6 drops
A soft cloth
Water – 2 cups
Mix all the ingredients – essential oils, tincture and water.
Soak the cloth in this blend. Squeeze it to drain the extra solution.
Put this compress on areas afflicted with varicose veins.
You can use this blend on a daily basis in order to get quick relief from itching varicose veins.
Blend 4 – Helichrysum essential oil for varicose veins
Helichrysum is among the essential oils I prefer the most for treating conditions like varicose veins. While this oil is comparatively costly, it is quite useful for conditions like varicose veins due to its anesthetic, antispasmodic and anticoagulant properties. Helichrysum oil helps in regenerating the nerves and reduces the pain. It clears the blood that has coagulated within the veins to ease you from discomfort and helps to regenerate the nerves. The regular application of this essential oil causes the varicose veins to disappear gradually. Apply 2-4 drops of this oil (diluted in 1 tsp almond oil) directly onto the skin where varicose veins have appeared and massage it in the direction of the heart. Here is an essential oil recipe using helichrysum as its active ingredient. I have personally tried this recipe and it achieves quick results.
Helichrysum oil – 1 drop
Basil oil – 3 to 4 drops
Cypress oil – 1 drop
Wintergreen oil – 1 drop
Mix all the essential oils and dilute in 1 tsp of sweet almond oil.
Apply this blend on your varicose veins.
Massage gently towards your heart.
Massage up until the oil is entirely absorbed by the skin.
Apply it on a daily basis.
Blend 5 – Gentle massage around veins
The two main ingredients used in this recipe are geranium and cypress. Geranium enhances blood circulation and Cypress has an astringent impact on the venous system.
15 drops of Geranium essential oil
10 drops Basil essential oil
15 drops of Cypress essential oil
40ml carrier oil
Mix all of the ingredients gently and massage around your inflamed veins.
Remember to massage very gently and make sure that you massage towards the heart. In addition, avoid massaging right over the veins – just massage around them.
Blend 6 – Use in the bath
5 drops Cypress essential oil
5 drops of Geranium essential oil
Blend both these oils and take 5 drops of the resulting blend. Add this mix to a warm bath and tenderly massage your legs. Other oils you can add to this recipe includelavender, juniper and rosemary. Make sure that you do not use more than five drops total in the bath in one go.
Blend 7 – Massage Oil
15 drops Geranium essential oil
5 drops Lemon essential oil
15ml Sweet Almond oil
30ml Grapeseed oil
5 drops Cypress essential oil
Mix all of the above ingredients and leave the blend for about four days as it is. Thereafter, massage very gently over the varicose veins two to three times a day.

The Simple Ready-Made Solution for Varicose Veins

What if you don’t have time to make any of the above blends or they simply do not work for you for whatever reason – don’t despair as there is a gentle, natural product that will get rid of those spider, varicose veins, H-Varicose Veins Formula. You only require a few drops of this unique formula for the swelling to start disappearing. My mum used it successfully. The only other tip I will give you is to be consistent and patient in its use and you will see the excellent results.

What Is The Best Way To Use The Essential Oil Recipes Mentioned Above?

I would recommend that you can apply these essential oil blends once daily. This will give you smooth and moisturized legs! From what I have learnt, these recipes generally take about a month to show visible results. One needs to be regular in their usage for at least a couple of months. In order to avoid sensitization, use these essential oils for a period of 2 weeks, and then stop for a week before starting to use them again.
Apply the blend liberally since you need to cover the entire leg. Make sure to rub towards the heart. As you know that the valves within the veins aren’t holding the blood like they should, you don’t want to make the issue worse by rubbing hard.

Few Lifestyle Changes Recommended For Long Lasting Relief From Varicose Veins

Although using essential oils is enough to offer you with quick relief, it is necessary to make some lifestyle modifications to make this relief permanent.
Avoid sitting or standing for longer durations at a stretch. Take breaks after every thirty minutes. You can walk a bit, stretch, stand for sometime or change your sitting position. Just don’t remain in a same position for a long period of time.
In the event you sit for extended durations, keep your legs elevated using a stool or a chair. In fact, try keeping your legs in an elevated position even during your sleep.
Don’t sit with crossed legs or crossed ankles.
Avoid wearing skin tight clothing, especially those that could hamper the blood circulation around the legs, waist and the groin area.
Avoid wearing high heel shoes.
Obesity is probably the significant reason for the onset of varicose veins. So, I would recommend losing weight. You can read more here.
Include exercise in your daily regime. Cardiovascular strength training is good for you. Even walking improves your blood circulation.
Avoid alcohol because it dilates blood vessels, making your condition worse.
Follow a balanced diet. Add fibrous foods to your meals. Fruits and veggies that are rich in antioxidants are perfect for you.
Diabetes is a common disease that affects more than 29 million people in the US alone, and over 380 million people worldwide.
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that restricts an individual’s ability to utilize the sugar in their body for energy generation due to which the sugar remains in the blood itself. Diabetics feel the need to urinate frequently and are often thirsty or hungry. When left untreated, diabetes can lead to complications such as renal failure, ocular damage and even heart disease.

What Are the Major Types Of Diabetes

Type I diabetes is a viral disease that generally occurs in the early years of the life of an individual and leads to the destruction of pancreatic cells that produce insulin. In such situation, the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to maintain low levels of sugar in the blood.
Type II diabetes generally happens in adulthood where the body cells become so toxic that they cannot accept the insulin produced in the body. This is the most common type of diabetes.

How Can Essential Oils Help In Cases Of Diabetes?

Aromatherapy is one of the best alternative therapies that can be used for the management of diseases like diabetes. Essential oils promote low glucose levels in the blood. Due to the 50 million olfactory receptors present inside your nostrils, essential oils can be directly absorbed into the blood to start their action immediately. Having said that, here are some of the best essential oils are recommended for diabetes.

17 Best Essential Oils for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

1. Coriander
Cilantro or coriander has its origin in western Asia and eastern Mediterranean region. Conventionally, coriander has been used as a blend to help cure digestive problems like diarrhea in young ones, colic pain, anorexia and flatulence. For the diabetes, Coriander promotes low blood glucose levels by increasing the insulin secretion in the pancreas. In addition, this essential oil is also known to exhibit insulin like activity at the cellular level.
2. Cinnamon
Consuming Cinnamon orally may ease the symptoms of diabetes. Research has shown that Cinnamon is able to reduce the levels of glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol in the body. Other than that, this oil has the ability to fight infection, reduce inflammation and balance blood sugar levels. It has natural antifungal and antiviral properties to combat infection and along with that, it is a natural immune booster. There are no known adverse effects of using cinnamon; but it may cause irritation to the skin or to the nasal passage if not diluted properly before use. An individual may consume 1-2 cloves a day to help balance the symptoms of diabetes. Other than that, the essential oil of clove can be useful for conditions like acne, food poisoning, lice manifestation, cataracts, inflammation, ulcers, diarrhea, nausea, arthritis and rheumatism and cardiovascular disorders. It is recommended that young ones and individuals who are taking anticoagulants should not use the clove as it can cause severe skin irritation. Even when it is being used on adults, I would recommend diluting the oil with any carrier oil before use. It can be consumed orally as a dietary supplement or used in a diffuser.
4. Myrrh
Myrrh can help control blood sugar levels. Its antioxidant properties support the immune system, making it one of the best oils for people suffering with diabetes. It can be used in a diffuser, as a food grade supplement or for the topical application.

In addition to that, Ocotea reduces the inflammation and helps to balance body’s internal response to injury and irritation. Children below 6 years of age, expectant females and the ones who are on medications should avoid Ocotea. This oil can sometimes be irritating to the skin when used without proper dilution. It can be diffused or inhaled, applied topically or can be taken as a dietary supplement.
7. Vetiver
The essential oil of Vetiver has soothing and grounding effects on the body. It is also known to ease anxiety, trauma, shock, and is ideal for relaxing muscles when used as massage oil. It can be used as a food supplement or can be inhaled directly. Although, Vetiver is harmless when taken as a medicine but the possible adverse effects are still unknown. Expectant females should not use it.
8. Lemon
Lemon essential oil can help you relax and can be used for renal calculi, ringing ears, swine flu and common cold. For diabetics, it can ease the tension and stress that many of them generally acquire due to the disease.

9. Ylang Ylang
The essential oil of Ylang Ylang can be both relaxing or stimulating. For diabetics, it is useful for coping with stress and anger. Inhaling its aroma can regulate the blood circulation thus reducing the blood pressure. This essential oil can be applied topically over the back, wrists, neck and feet or can be diffused.
10. Thyme
Essential oil of Thyme is useful as an analgesic, expectorant, diuretic, anti catarrhal, immune stimulant and an antiseptic. This oil is also helpful in the prevention of diseases like psoriasis, dermatitis, hepatitis, bronchitis, and cardiovascular diseases, which a diabetic is likely to suffer from.
Use of this oil is not recommended for individuals with high blood pressure, young ones and expectant females. It can be used as a dietary supplement, diffused or applied topically.

While there are many essential oils that can regularize the blood circulation in the body, one of the most touted ones is the essential oil of cypress. Cypress is also well-known oil in the alternative medicine community for its cardiovascular benefits.
14. Fenugreek Oil
One of the studies conducted on fatty rats found that fenugreek could significantly help to increase the insulin sensitivity in the body. With further research, it was concluded that Fenugreek not only targets the symptoms of the disease but also makes the life of a diabetic easier by keeping him fresh and energized throughout the day.
15. Citrus Oils mixture
Diabetes is a disease that not only affects pancreas but many organs and processes all throughout the body including the vision. Blends of Citrus oils can support the visual system and the major organs such as the liver as they are rich in natural antioxidants. However, the reason why the alternative medicine community banks upon citrus oils is their ability to support the pancreas so that they are able to release the right amount of insulin required by the body.
